By engaging with local communities and fostering genuine connections, we can help keep their traditions alive, ensuring future generations can learn from their profound truths. Every interaction offers us a glimpse into the heart of a culture, reminding us of our shared humanity and the beauty found in diversity. Embracing these cultures not only enhances our travels but also allows us to contribute to a world where every voice is valued and heard, creating a legacy of understanding that transcends borders.

One of the last real eagle hunters remaining in the world.

One of the last real Eagle Hunters. Taken in 2025 in Western Mongolia, this 12 photo set shows the life of one of the last real eagle hunters in the world.

During the communist period in Kazakhstan, many Kazakhs fled for Mongolia to avoid being forced to abandon their nomadic lifestyle and sent to collective farms. They settled in Bayan-Ölgii Province and brought with them their tradition of hunting with eagles. There are an estimated 250 eagle hunters in Bayan-Ölgii, which is located in the Altai Mountains of western Mongolia. Their falconry custom involves hunting with golden eagles on horseback, and they primarily hunt red foxes and corsac foxes. They use eagles to hunt foxes and hares during the cold winter months when it is easier to see the gold-colored foxes against the snow.
